Sunday, June 3 (Gravel)
We found a hidden treasure on Old K-10 road - the hills to the south. Veterans of the K2r remember the beautiful hills to the south, on the last roll into Alma. This year, we take our riders into these hills.
1st Stop - Volland Road - 14 miles
You are past half-way to the Volland Store through some of the most scenic Flint Hills Country in the state. We went out of our way to get here. This stretch takes you to LIttle Eqypt Road and on to the Volland Store. This should be the most scenic stretch of Sunday's rides, because of the elevation.
You should get some great wide open vistas of the Flint Hills. We will have an Area 52 sag stop, at the top of one of the hills, with water and snacks.
Volland Store - 9.2 miles
Our hub for the day is the Volland Store. Both rides pass through on the way to the end in Alma. Beer sales benefit the Volland Store.
Historic Old Fort - 6.1 miles
Riders pass the one room school house on old K-10 Road, en route to the historic fort. The ride returns to the Volland Store on old K-10 Road.
Back to Volland Store - 4.7 miles
Alma High School - 8.8 miles
An easy ride on blacktop on old K-10 Road gets riders back to Alma to end the ride.
Don't miss Little Egypt Road, south of Volland. Riders can loop through the hills and return to the store. The loop is beautiful, but very hilly. The roads are lined with grass in the center, and are impassable if it rains. Lots of cattle and vistas.
Pure Flint Hills joy.
The ride begins and ends in Alma, from the parking lot at the Wabaunsee County Senior High School.
The ride starts at 7 AM.
Parking and showers are available at the high school..
Showers are open from 11 AM to 2 PM.
